Never walk alone...

Summer break. I was sitting at the computer room of my flat and listening to music while surfing the net. My friend called me and offered to go downtown. I was very tired and didn’t really want to go out. Kirill, my friend, told me, that it’s ok and he’ll ask somebody else to come with him. After I hanged up the phone, don’t know why, I thought that every time I don’t go with him something happens.

2 hours later somebody called from downstairs. I looked at the camera and saw my friend. I was really happy, that he came to visit me. I thought: “He is such a nice friend!”. I opened the door welcomed him. But he looked really nervous. His head was down and one of his hands was covering his nose. Kirill took off his shoes and started walking to the hallway.
- Kirill? , I called him
- Fhere if fhe wafhroom? , he replied me quietly.
- Oh my God! What the hell happened to you?!?!
Suddenly, I realized, that his usual black clothing became darker and was shining, because of BLOOD! I looked up and couldn’t see his face behind the really long hair.
- Right over here! Come! Lean down near the sink and wait! I’ll bring a chair and some tissues
- Itf’s ok. I’ll go hfome foon.
I wasn’t listening to him and had a little time to look at his face. His eyes were red and full with tears of pain. And nose… His nose was broken. Also one of his cheeks turned violet. At that moment I didn’t have much time to ask him. I went out and in around 20 seconds I already had a chair and tissues brought to the washroom.
After we have cleaned up his bloody nose and contacted his parents, he told me the whole story. He told me: He was at downtown and he met his friends. They decided to go to the park near my house. While they were talking and having fun near the fountain in the park, a bunch of skinheads came up to them and started to ask Kerill stupid questions. Because he has felt the responsibility to protect his friends, he stood up against them. One of the skinheads, to humiliate him, poured beer on his face. While he was wiping his face, the skinhead punched Kirill. Kirill was bleeding very badly, all the girls who were with him ran away and the skin heads left the scene. The fountain turned bloodily red and he was just leaning against the fountain, bleeding. After a while, he got himself together and walked to my house. That was his story.
His father came and took care of Kirill, he drove him to the hospital. I was left there alone, cleaning the blood in the hallway and the bathroom. The image of Kirill, bleeding, being so weak, his hands shaking and so sad kept coming back to me. I thought, I never wanted to see him like that ever again, and I was really angry, I had this huge urge to go out there and beat the skinheads who did this to Kirill.

This story came to me when I was choosing my blog topic, and I would want everyone to understand how important it is to study the origin and reduce violence.

Bias Assignment

I made a research and through yellow press, editorials, official statisctics and found some interesting examples.

I. Не надо злобы. Не надо насилия. Где насилие, там и кровь. она родит демонов мщения и новые ручьи крови.

Translation:Anger is not needed. Violence is not needed as well. Blood is there violence is and gives birth to the demons of revenge and new streams of blood.

Thats a personal opinion of one author and it really shows how violence works. If you always keep replying on violence from others and so do they, there will be an infinite sequence, which will never end. And as a result we get people dying, people suffering, people crying, but not that stage of utophia which seemed to be perfect for Marks.

II. призывы "навести порядок" в Москве, избавиться от иммигрантов и — читай — добиться того, чтобы русских девушек в России насиловали и убивали исключительно русские по национальности преступники, а не заезжие гастролеры.

Translation:Calls to “clean up” Moscow, get rid of emigrants and to make Russian women to be raped and killed only by Russian criminals, not arriving once.

In this quote was taken from editorial and “clean up” Moscow is a perfect detection of bias. So, author is kind of racist, and thinks that all the emigrants are like this. I know that many of them are. You can’ think of people migrating and moving to Moscow as of nice Canadian emigrants, which are ready to help you at any time. Many of this emigrants have nothing behind, and they are just trying to survive. That’s why it’s easy for them to kill someone. News, on the other side of the story are just saying about new parts of emigrants being sent home everyday or so. Not violence.

III.

Translation:It’s like would be more pleasant for me, If I’m getting shot by street teens, than police. I spent 40 years in army, and deserved to carry my own weapon (by the way they are given to people like Yakubovich, politicians and other “public people”).Agreement for scare-“rubber bullet shooting” – that’s a thing, with each owner will have to pay a lot: he takes out his “rubber” gun and gets a shot from real fighting weapon as a result. Our government is scared of it’s people and even if they create the law of usage of a private weapon, it would be 4-5 weaker than normal gun.

Here is authors opinion again. First he say, that he doesn’t trust Russian police and equalizes them to street crime. Because sometimes you really can’t trust Russian police. They don’t care about things just do their job... sometimes. And after he says, that weapons are giving away to people, who didn’t deserve them and is it really how it’s supposed to be? Author of this article shows his own opinion and I’m finding it correct. Like if you can robe the bank with a playgun (I didn’t do that) why can’t you be killed for showing it to real gun holder? “Oh my God, he took his 12 mm magnum and pointed on me, I’ve got so scared and shot him with my AK-47 I’ve got in the supermarket after new law was introduced. I didn’t notice his gun was plastic by the way…” – I think that will happen. Russian people are to strong and they have a different way of thinking. And if gun in future will not just be for self protection, but the solvent of any conflict, this winter break I’ll kill like 4 people.

A little bit about Russian and Canadian Violence.

Russian and Canadian Violence.

Canadian:7.1 million registered firearms in Canada172 gun related homicides in Canada in 2004112 committed with handguns71 gang-related homicides in Canada in 200470.4 percent of gang-related homicides committed with a gun20.7 percent of non-gang related homicides committed with a gunThe highest concentration of gun violence is amongst gangs. 50 out of the 70 gang murders last year used guns, and 32 of those murders were carried out with hand guns. The facts are that Canada doesn’t have a gun violence problem. Here in Canada, we experience about 5 deaths per million.

Russian:In January 2008 where were 1037 robberies with usage of guns. (-35,1%). Moscow had 36 cases. Biggest number was in Novosibirsk (58).In 2007 22,200 people were killed, comparing to 2001 with 33,600.
___________________________________________________

Here is some data about this two countries, and what can be noticed. I guess, that Canada is much more safe and wereare not many murders comparing to Russia, where we have huge amount of murders per year. If you compare Russia to USA, you will see, that Russia will have almost 4 times more murders then USA does. And who was thinking, that USA is a "gang" country? There are also many different aspects of violence, not just murders, but teen violence, family violence, violence against women... and so on. This are just some materials on my topic, which, as I realized is very wide and I hope I can handle it.

Introduction

Hello, my name is Valeriy Vanyunin. I'm russian and currently studying in Canada. The topic I’ve chosen is becoming really important worldwide, because the understanding and level of violence is different for every country. After I came in Toronto, first time I found myself safe in the everyday life. The differences in Russian and Canadian societies are so huge, that I was amazed and now starting a research about the level of violence in this two countries. So, violence: Russia VS Canada, let’s see the difference!
